Why NVIDIA buy ARM? Wet Dreams.

Why NVIDIA buy ARM?. Is Nvidia recent acquisition a way to become close to Apple again? I start to speculate on these while watching RTX Family Launch as the reason .

The idea of these two companies collaborating again to build next gen professional and end user Cyber toys isn’t impossible at all. Like two very attractive middle age sexy specimens, successful tech companies have a very strong gravitational force that eventually will bring both together. Its matter of time and or opportunity. (and faith). The time is now and the opportunity in the form of an acquisition deal.

While launching the new flagship consumer level RTX Family Nvidia was ready to do an unexpected move.

ARM future could be related to these new architecture

A new toy everybody desire:

I have to tell, i’m not a hardcore game player anymore, but as someone with more than 34 years of gameplay in the body, i’m always ready to come back if something special happens. When I hear about Ampere and the GTX lineup my eyes open big time. It is a pretty good excuse to play again for the pleasure of a “hands-on” high performance experience. A pretty solid argument to spend a car budget on a “test” gear again, and excuse to disappears for weeks and lockdown from the normal life.

How I can explain these… when Jensen Huang ( Nvidia CEO) opens the oven, it’s magic folks. What a cool idea is to present products from the kitchen, I tell you guys, it’s the only way you will find me watching someone in the kitchen on the big screen!

Well these time a new powerhouse flagship consumer level, professional performance video and AI subsystem emerges to see the light. We are not talking about video cards anymore. These is a new kind of beast, one that can replace solid state transistors with algorithms, actually avoiding the need to process reality to simple build it from math in a version witch is better than the actual frame capture on UHD cameras.

Ampere is combining the power of several dedicated systems to build on top them a new discipline in graphics processing. AI filling the gaps pushing performance forward, these make me smile again, I can’t remember the last time when I saw a leap these size. (link to boring system specs goes here)

Nvidia RTX Family Launch, ARM design portfolio can be part of the future?
The moment NVIDIA’S CEO Show the new RTX3090

Is GTX the most powerful video processing system in the world?

he… no. but it is for sure the best price/performance product on 2020 and is in the top the charts of performance over any other consumer product with the RTX 3080. According to Tom’s Hardware it is the best graphic card for gaming. ( https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/best-gpus,4380.html )

In real world terms is the next cool thing to ad to the wish list, I think these can be the standard VR card of choice if you can put your hands on it. ( sales are going to the sky )

If you compare all charts theres simple no competition for now. But the fact that many software isn’t optimised yet make me wonder how mucho improve can be make from the software size, using these architecture very particular potential.

Back to the lovers and tech romance.

Nvidia is managing to bring RISC technology a chair in their A-Team, they buy ARM corporation for 40 Billions, that means Apple become instantly one of the major customers of Nvidia again. Surprise Surprise. Who can tell these will happens?. Remember the gravitational forces? Well it happens.

The thing is, as we know Apple is building/and/or designing new GPU’s, it is very possible the new design will become close in functionality or in the long term include some of the new architecture strategies Nvidia develop. Is the new Ampere GPU architecture in apple’s roadmap?.

These is a giant market shake as ARM is present in almost all smartphones all over the world, that instantly make NVIDIA the most important Chip vendor. Of course these is the first thing we imagine as a reason why NVIDIA buy ARM. But theres is something more under the carpet. As a strategic move of chess, Nvidia could block future Apple movements to the GPU market as an independent designer, the reason some kind of potential patent infringement that could slow down Apple developments into the ultimate freedom. As pure speculation, it can have some true meaning in terms or strategy and legal limitations, for instance the idea Apple and Nvidia where unable to cooperate plenty due legacy contracts that now can be obsolete.

GTX and MAC products ?

Now the thing is, it is possible to make these things work together, it always happen, how fast we will find the way to make Mac / OSX / GTX work together?, I have no idea, but in the meantime I will buy a box to put one of those sweet weapons to test. For instance is a great idea to have a eGPU chassis on hand to test a little bit. The thing is, pure graphics power is the only thing i truly miss in Apple lineup, is a pain and these have to be solved so we can keep our macbooks, Imacs and Macs working in the future.

I use to mix things up, in one hand i love these product launches and trendy leaps forward, in the other i got these vision of a future with a fully integrated supply chain that can be good for consumers in terms of development speed but also can be to much power on few hands. Time will tell.

Love you all.
