Apple is preventing Epic from releasing patches for distribution on Mac, which means updates for Fortnite: Save the World will end.
According to Epic, this had ended the ability to offer Fortnite: Save the World updates to the game on Mac. If Mac users install the next update to the game on their system, v14.20, it will “cause bugs for players,” resulting in “a very poor experience.”
“Since we are no longer able to sign updates and release fixes for these issues, beginning September 23, 2020, Fortnite: Save the World will no longer be playable on macOS,” Epic stated.
Save the World Starter Packs are now no longer be available for purchase on macOS.
To ease the pain a bit, Epic is issuing refunds to all who purchased any Save the World Founder’s or Starter Packs – including upgrades – and played on on macOS between September 17, 2019 and September 17, 2020.
Epic notes that it may take up to October 2 for your bank account to reflect the refund.
Any purchased V-Bucks spent on Llamas on Mac during this period will also be refunded.
“There’s no action needed on your part to receive the refund and you will retain any previously purchased V-Bucks and items on your account,” the notice continues.
“Players will still be able to play Save the World on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox. Thanks to cross-progression, your Heroes, Schematics, and everything else in your Homebase will automatically transfer across supported platforms. ”
Fortnite: Battle Royale remains playable for Mac users at this time on the v13.40 build, but is no longer receiving version updates due to Apple’s policy against Epic.
This is just the latest in the ongoing feud between Apple and Epic Games, which started with Fortnite being pulled from the App Store due to Epic releasing a hotfix that enabled players to bypass the App Store’s payment system.
Epic tried to get the courts to allow the game to return to the store, but it remains off and Apple has terminated Epic’s developer access.
