Riot police used tear gas and water cannons to disperse protesters who had gathered at a weekly anti-government rally in Santiago on Friday.
Protesters were seen marching and making noise, as some of them threw stones and other objects at the police.
Protesters continue to rally in Santiago each Friday, demanding the Parliament to approve the pension bill, proposed by the opposition, which would allow citizens to make a second emergency withdrawal from their privately held pensions.
Country’s President Sebastian Pinera had earlier pledged to appeal to the country’s Constitutional Court as he deemed the bill unconstitutional, while the opposition sees the bill as an adequate response to the economic consequences of the coronavirus pandemic.
Chile has been rocked by anti-government protests since 2019, leading to a referendum on October 25 in which citizens overwhelmingly voted for a new constitution.
