This is a very convincing alternative if you’re any of the below:
1. An existing apple user (or someone into clean/minimalist design)
2. You want the most performance at the lowest cost
3. You want to be able to upgrade your machine (and save money)
4. You have no idea how to build a pc
5. You have no time to build/learn to build a pc
6. You already own a monitor and peripherals
(I was all of these)
In my breakdown I forgot to mention the included magic mouse (£99) and keyboard (£99) that comes with the iMac. Also, bear in mind that software optimisation is something that often works in Apple’s favour when benchmarking PCs against Macs.
Although the cost of getting an expert to build your PC is more expensive than building it yourself, it provides peace of mind because due to the labour warranty. Additionally, because of the time and stress saved and risk reduced, it makes it an attractive option for the majority of people (especially those used to “ready out of the box” products). This isn’t a video about Mac vs PC as I love them both. They’re just different products for different needs.
💰 Cost Breakdown at Time of Writing:
Total cost of iMac + peripherals = £4800
The total cost of my NZXT setup + monitor + peripherals = £2750 (£2366+£280+£94+£10)
(Labour warranty, Windows 10 and BullGuard antivirus included and pre-installed)
Total cost of iMac (8gb RAM) + peripherals + 64gb RAM (for self installation) = £4030
Total cost of self built NZXT h1 (excluding monitor + peripherals) = £1960
Cost of Final Cut Pro = £299.99 (one time payment)
Cost of Adobe Premiere Pro = £238.42 (paid annually)
